"We take the existence of borders for granted simply because we’ve always been told they are real, and the borders with our neighbors have remained unchanged during our lifetimes.

In reality, they are not real. In fact, while I can say with all certainty this will not happen in the foreseeable future, it is entirely possible that all of the borders dividing all of the countries all over this world could be erased in a single day.

In a sense, we are hostages of the countries in which we are born, held captive by artificial borders. We are not asked if we would like to be a citizen of the nation in which we’re born."

Someone at Medium deleted the list of ICE employees, so here's a more in-depth list of all ICE detention centers as well as employees. To be used 100% in accordance with the law ofc. twitter.com/Send_Lwyds/status/

Federated social media will out live giants like facebook, twitter. They might have a small user base but that means nothing, they are not run for a profit and a single node going down has little impact on the hole of the network.

And being a for purpose network, it is not left to the mercy of market valuation that has killed so many social networks in the past.

Loving how people are talking about how bad it is that their favourite services have or are being bought up by a few large companies (Microsoft, Google, etc) while also praising the virtues of capitalism.

Pretty cool that since blender now uses peertube, you can just follow @blender from here 😻

Neoliberals: Ooh, look at you looking so presentable and talkin’ so smoothly about human rights and social justice. Let’s hang sometime.

Also neoliberals: oh, wait, so you actually want to change the system I benefit extraordinarily from? What are you, some sort of communist or something?

Accusing someone of "reverse racism" is basically calling them an anti-racist.

What is the worst advice to give someone?

Started watching Personal Democracy Forum but then noticed the sponsors. The top one is Microsoft and the audience is encouraged to clap for Microsoft. Others are the usual suspects. Increasingly these few companies seem to be funding everything.

It's going to be really hard to discuss contemporary issues around democracy and technology with these tech monopolists as the sponsors. When was the last time I heard any serious criticism of Microsoft in a forum like this? Must have been a long time ago. And yet they continue to do a lot of bad stuff.
Microsoft and IT in schools. There's an entire talk which could be had about the corruption which goes on there and how kids get brainwashed with proprietary tech. But given the sponsors of course that discussion won't happen.
