starting tomorrow, docs made with the nightly rustdoc will be using the new Pulldown markdown parser by default https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/47398
the old Hoedown parser is still available with a command-line flag
cargo rustdoc -- -Z unstable-options --disable-commonmark
@k not really, this isn't changing the way rustdoc works much, just using a different means to convert doc comments to html
a lot of work would need to happen to get rustdoc a proper troff output, since it's only really designed to output html right now
@QuietMisdreavus ah, last time I mentioned troff I thought you said something about needing to wait for the new parser, gotcha
@k nah, there's a different project to totally rewrite rustdoc, this is just patching up the existing one
@k @QuietMisdreavus once upon a time I tried piping rustdoc output into nokogiri so I could strip out the extra bits and pipe that into pandoc and thence troff
The upshot of that is my gratitude to Steve and Misdreavus for working on rustdoc instead of me
