Masto is seriously a game changer for me. I work in social media advertising (yeah, I know, I chose the company for the people, not the product), so I see first hand how gung ho these social media companies are about their product.

Things like federation and separate instances are huge features for protecting people social media giants simply won't see revenue from.

The main issue I see now, is accessibility of instancing...

It'd be nice to be able to pay someone to get things up and running. Ideally this service would exist in such a way that people are in charge of their own data, and are free to run the instance on their own should they decide they can handle hosting duties on their own.
