Yes, frequently things are done or said that are horribly wrong and every once in a while it’s ok to be openly indignant about it. But for the love of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, have some respect for the work that others do and their intentions, and try to work with them and help them understand why they may be misguided.

Being an asshole to enhance your sense of superiority is cancerous and needs to stop.

So what is the problem exactly? It’s the *way* these things are communicated. It’s rare to see a disagreement communicated in a way that doesn’t come off as shitting all over the target of the disagreement.

Whether you are right in your disagreement or not, being a dick about it is immensely detrimental to everything that we are trying to achieve as infosec practitioners, especially when done in the public sphere .

Our industry seems to have a serious problem with the way we communicate disagreements. Maybe not in our jobs and to clients, but to others in infosec or related fields like developers.

On the birdsite and every other public forum, you can’t go more than an hour without seeing someone tear a person or organization apart for something that is considered *by some* to be a bad practice, something that is less than ideal, or, in rare cases, something factually wrong.

What is it about people that makes them so opposed to ensuring that other human beings don't endure crazy amounts of hardship? Did their parents not teach them how to share or be nice to people?

I understand my experiences are completely different from everyone else's and are a large part of why I feel the way I do, but I'm at a point where I can't even comprehend why someone would be against helping others who need it.
