Smells Like Teen Spirit playing on the radio tonight made me post this.
Name a song you like but you think is overplayed.
@technomancy Me no like Matias switches. :( Cherry clears for me.
At the same time, too many coops sometimes have an excessive tendency towards bikeshedding, and endless brainstorms with few people actually compromising to deliver products, and dillution of responsibility when not managed properly.
That's the antithesis of what Free Software is about.
It's better to be an excellent coop before assuming that any and all coops can be a good match for Free Software. Otherwise we're at risk of ending up with the worst of both worlds.
I think the mere existence of this thread is a symptom of a deeper problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/6s2l0w/removing_the_white_flash_before_a_page_loads/
I have discovered a nearby pizza place that sells by the slice, and they're huge slices, and reasonably priced. This is dangerous.
heard there is a openbsd kernel patch you should be running which hangs your computer on startup until computers are verified safe to use again
OK, going to try this who "tired/wired" meme:
tired: Hungarian notation
wired: Actually using your bloody tools to tell you what type something is.
Does anything on the fediverse have any concept of groups or topics beyond hashtags? And if all we have is hashtags, how does one use them effectively? My only experience with them is trending BS on walled-garden sites.

Two years on, and I still can't really believe that Gmane is gone. It was such a huge part of my life since high school. I think I spent as much time in FOSS communities as I did on my university work, if not more. And now it's gone. A slice of history is gone. An era of the Internet ended, without warning. Like your beloved laptop one day emitting its last blip before going cool and silent forever. It was just a machine, but it was part of your life.
@jk computers are just magic runes inscribed on glass, it's software that's Really Fucking Bad
that's why I write all my code in uhhh ... *checks notes* aw, fuck, it just says "vore me haskell" over and over
yeah computers are terrible
The inventor of the World Wide Web, the co-founder of Wikipedia, and the founder of the Internet Archive agree: "Article 13 takes an unprecedented step towards the transformation of the Internet...into a tool for the automated surveillance and control of its users." /14
Silly electronics project idea: a tiny working model of self-checkout machines. Fully open hardware and software, and a working scanner.
Is there a federated platform for more old-school newsgroups, web forums, BBSs, etc?
Oh yay, Mastodon drama popped up in my feed. Now I remember why I hate this format: it's impossible to follow the history of any long thread (and the term "thread" seems generous), and people get territorial over "hashtags". This is why I think emulating a format designed to serve a business model of bringing out the worst in people (Twitter) is a bad idea.
