I'm reviving the ! If you'd like to try out collaborating in randomly assigned pairs with other lovely and creative music-making people, this might be for you. No genre, skill, or whatever restrictions.

goo.glCollaboration 2018Last year, I started A Whale's Lantern - a project that brings people together to collaborate in random pairs. The results of the first project round were beautiful and can be heard at awhaleslantern.bandcamp.com Since the project was a lot of fun, I'd like to repeat it this year. It doesn't matter what kind of music you make or what exactly you can contribute - if you are an instrumentalist, you could play on someone's song, if you are a composer, you could send sheet music, if you're a singer, you can use your voice, etc. All genres, skill levels, and musical backgrounds are welcome! The theme of this second project round will be "The Elements". Fire, water, wind, earth - pick one or several and get inspired. What does fire sound like? What does wind tell you on a bleak winter day? The timeline: 20.1. - Deadline for signing up 21.1. - Pairs are drawn and communicated 17.2. - Deadline for letting me know whether you would like to enter the second round of drawing pairs 18.2. - Pairs of the second drawing are communicated 15.4. - Deadline for submitting your song 22.4. or 29.4. - Release Date As in the previous round, the album will be name-your-price, any potential sales will be split equally between the artists (you will need a paypal account for this to work). The rights to the songs stay with you. Mastering will be done by Mike (arcseconds.net). @masu I'd love to participate but I want to release my music under a Creative Commons licence. Could I sign up and be paired up only if another artist is keen to do that? Happy to just be on the side, in the standby lane :)

@stragu I would love to have you on boadr but I think it would be difficult to settle this upfront - since it would mean that I have to ask everyone about their copyright preferences before drawing pairs (which I don't really want to do). I would suggest that you sign up and I pair you with someone and then you can see whether CC would work out. There is a second drawing a month after the first one anyway in case people don't get along/someone doesn't respond etc. How does that sound?

@masu thanks for the reply, Mascha. I would feel bad if the person I'm matched with does not agree and is left without a partner. So I'll just sit this one out, no problem at all! Unless someone comments on this thread and is keen to do that with me, maybe?
