An odd thing about UK holidays (which I like) is some don't even nominally commemorate a person/thing, they're just a day off. Today was a holiday that, at least according to the gov.uk list, used to be called "Late August Bank Holiday", and was recently renamed "Summer Bank Holiday". Either way, descriptive and nice.

Anecdote from Michel Foucault's 1975–76 lectures at the Collège de France. So many students had begun turning up that it was becoming unwieldy. But the CdF has a structure where instead of teaching regular courses, chairs give lectures legally open to all, without prerequisites. So he reduced attendance through the practical measure of rescheduling the lectures so early in the morning that few students would turn up... the ungodly hour of 9:30am.

I've been noticing people using plus/minus/tilde symbols in their CWs lately, like "thing (+)". What does this mean? Not succeeding in formulating search keywords to find the answer...

Weirdly muggy here, even though it's not really hot. But just warm enough indoors (25 C / 77 F) that the fog/drizzle feels a bit oppressive rather than chilly.

Query: Do you have a non-cloud calendar setup you like?

Options seem to be:

1. #selfhosting a CalDAV server, then use it either through a web interface (also self-hosted) or via various desktop apps. E.g. one of these: https://github.com/Kickball/awesome-selfhosted#calendaring-and-contacts-management

2. Skip the CalDAV server and just run a #cli calendaring app on my VPS, like taskwarrior or khal. Or an emacs package, probably.
