okay masto folk. are there tutorials, etc. on making a masto bot?

i'm gonna make a self care bot. i just need some tutorials or something.

@LottieVixen @pixelpaperyarn The only good thing I know of right now is mastodonpy.readthedocs.io/en/l
Although it's not exactly a complete tutorial in itself...

@LottieVixen @pixelpaperyarn

That's the one I'm having trouble with. The LetsEncrypt installer swears up and down that it can't access the test file, but I load the URL it gives and Everything Is Fine.

I am mystified.

@pixelpaperyarn not a tutorial, but my combined twitter/masto wordlist bots are open source, feel free to ask any questions

@noiob thank you! also, i love that bot so much.

@noiob @pixelpaperyarn

for what it's worth I've got a bot running as well and it's also open source: github.com/theZacAttacks/Remin

@pixelpaperyarn this is a great idea ! Can't help but support, tho

@magikarp support is awesome and i can always use more!

@pixelpaperyarn There are! There was a project, learning to code in #python, we used the hashtag #pcode. I think there should be resources available. Please feel free to let me know if these hints don't help enough, I'm sure I can dig it up. (Just not right now.)

@pixelpaperyarn you could also check out @chr 's library, which is higher level and specifically built for common bot operations github.com/chronister/ananas

@impiaaa @chr this is a newbie sounding question, but i'm guessing that this kind of bot would need to run as a deployment or something from a server? like, not just hosting the file somewhere, but running on heroku or something right?

@pixelpaperyarn Yeah, well, someone has to run it. I don't know if there are any hosted bot platforms for Mastodon out there. It doesn't need to be a dedicated server, though. Mine runs on my RPi from home, and I've heard that there are other inexpensive options out there.

@impiaaa i think i'm just gonna go with the glitch option. looks like i've got an easy setup that way. at the moment, more important to get the bot up for interested folks and i'll dig into this as a learning project later with something less vital. thanks for the info!
