So what do US people do on July 4th apart from fireworks, grilling food outdoors and drinking?

Why have I not heard of the band Fu Manchu until now?

Today was, from a purely tech perspective, a sad day. I officially retired and cannibalized the hard drives from my ancient Black MacBook [2008] and old Aluminum MacBook Pro [2012]. Between the two of them, these two laptops served me for over a decade, to include 4 continents, two deployments to wartime Iraq, and the sailing the high seas hunting pirates and other ne’er-do-wells. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end; but recognize, in their day, they were bleeding edge tech!

While (mostly) resisting the lure of Mastodon distractions I managed to show a little information about boosted (reblogged) toots (statuses) in

I tried jackfruit tacos for the first time (good) and was invited to an Invisible Sun so it was basically a positive day.

Not sure if drowning in imposter syndrome or just heckin' tired.

Maybe both.

An early start tomorrow but at least it involves motorcycles.

i will start organizing my webring tonight.

here are some thoughts on core principles for the webring, let me know your thoughts:
* every site should list all* of the other sites in the webring
* you cannot do this automatically. it has to be an inefficient organic process over either fediverse or email
* it's fine if things aren't completely consistent. in fact you can do anything that adds flavor to the list of links. you can also omit people you don't want to link for whatever reason
* the core theme of the webring is "we want webrings to be a thing again"
* your website can be any http(s)-addressible page that you want to share
* no zuckerbook/birdsite links

But the measure of a life isn’t in excitement, whether we find a burning car to pull someone out of. We can all change the world with small actions, minute by minute. Buying, calling, voting — or not.

And of inestimable power: the kind word, or the harsh one.

You can't convince me this isn't the best way to browse Mastodon.

Everybody relax. I still have mad-skillz at Laser Squad.

I just upgraded my life by buying a mouse mat and it is fantastic.

Gitlab hasn't spoken very much about adding federation to Gitlab. Also the CEO has said he is open to selling Gitlab. Really beginning to doubt my trust in them. I think if I ever want to self host I'll just go with Gitea.

Withdrawing socially is a common form of self-harm among people with #depression. Please keep an eye out for it and recognize that someone who pulls away when they're depressed won't necessarily want to keep that distance when the fugue ends.
