mastodon.social is down, so I'm using my backup Icosahedron account.

nooo, mastodon.social is acting up again!

Aw heck, I couldn't wait. Importing my follow list and heading back to @sanspoint full-time.

This was fun, though. Nice to spend some time on another instance.

Mastodon.social is BACK baby! I'm probably gonna pack back up and swing back over there tomorrow. This'll still be my backup, in case things go nuts. Either way, if you're following me here, go follow @sanspoint just to get a jump on things.

For me the hardest part of making a Mastodon bot was figuring out the OAuth dance to get my access token.

Twitter offers a UI that does this for you, so I made one for Mastodon! It works on any instance, but it does require you to run a `curl` command (that it generates for you) at the very end. Hope you find it useful!

Ultimately Mastodon's killer feature is that it's a public good that someone built because they thought it needed to exist and not a startup someone built because they wanted to get rich quick selling other people's data.

Hi, Icosahedron. This is me, and behind me is where I work.

Have I posted a Selfie since moving to Icosahedron? Don't think so. I'll post one once I'm out of the office..

also "mastodon.social has rules and doesn't federate with the lolicon site" is not a very good critique. GNU Social instances don't all federate either. The software enables you to selectively federate but that's not new. The rules of one site are not a critique of the software

If'n someone were considering spinning up a Mastodon instance, what would be the best hosting option for it?

hej afternoon ppl,,

i started up a new instance called cybre.space/ !
general use instance, open registration, good vibes

if youre tired of ur mastodon TL movin slow, come check it out

Hm. Smaller networks full of people, not brands, community over monetization...

*blows the dust off his tech blogging hat*

*immediately begins coughing up a lung*

ow.

You know what? Mastodon doesn't have to be as huge as Twitter to be awesome. If anything, it's better as a smaller thing. Part of why Twitter shat the bed is because it's a giant network of too many people with too few barriers keeping them from each other. Smaller, decentralized, more human (or furry) networks are better. Harder to monetize, but fuck monetization too.

Still bummed that the primary instance is still messed up with the Home timeline running behind. I'll give it a couple more days, though.
