I typically hate the term "trap" and being called a trap but the "are traps gay" meme is so funny to me because literally whether or not its gay when i sleep with a straight man is a legitimate question I deal with on a regular basis
It also highlights how ridiculous our gender/sexuality systems are if you treat them as Things That Are Real and not arbitrary fluctuating bullshit.
@maiyannah wait do people genuinely argue about it I thought it was a joke
I think it's one of the cases as with most conversations that start on /b/ where 9/10 people debating it are tongue in cheek or uninvested and one is Very Upset
@shel You just blew my hair back. If I were to sleep in the same bed as my female friend, nobody thinks we're lesbians. But if two guy friends sleep in the same bed they're gay and their masculinity is threatened. GEEZ!
@dragonluvr89 I don't have enough context about who you are or who you think I am for me to understand what you're trying to get at sorry.
I'm a bisexual non-binary trans woman who spent a good chunk of time as a gay man. When straight men are interested in me, given that I do not fully identify as a woman, it becomes a ridiculous endeavor to consider if that's "gay" or not. It was an actual conundrum I had in my last relationships about if we were a gay couple or a straight one
@dragonluvr89 if it's straight then that pigeonholes me into being a woman when I don't have any interest in being a simple woman in a straight relationship. But is it gay? I'm still somewhat a woman and also the other person may not consider themselves queer or have any interest in people who aren't womanlike regardless of cis or trans status
And it actually affects my relationships.
So it's hilariously cathartic seeing that meme on GNU Social
@rw but consider a social constructural analysis here:
@rw @cyberpotato so you're saying we should draw upon analytic philosophy and the works of Pythagoras in our examination of the question?
@shel @cyberpotato @rw But isn't there a wider discussion of if crossdressing should be considered under the "trans umbrella"? I literally had this discussion with my roomies awhile back while watching Drag Race and was baffled when they said they count as trans
@cunningcorvid im just saying i find a joke funny that is primarily made by 4chan types because i dont actually think its productive to categorize people like that since it's all arbitrary
if they want to include themselves as trans they're welcome to but that's their decision it's not worth it to do human identity typology
@rw @cyberpotato so wait is the question whether it's gay if you are a straight man and you fap to trap porn or is the question if it is gay if you *are* the trap but you only sleep with women [and how do incels/volcels play into it. are they gray-ace?]
@cyberpotato @rw OK so we have a text here. but can this discourse be made intertextual? And what would Rosseau say?
@cyberpotato @rw more so than whether traps are gay, I think we should be discussing if they are queer, and should we make accommodations in the queer community
In this essay we will look at whether and how traps queer our notions of gender and sexuality , drawing from The works of Engels and
@cyberpotato @rw Engels was an economist. Do you think Marx and him debated the traps are gay question?
"Traps aren't gay" is both validating that trans women are women but also reinforces that masculine "it's not gay if you don't touch balls" crap
and "Traps are gay" is the opposite
it's fucking ridiculous
