my dream features for mastodon are still as follows, in order of importance to me:
-federated private posts
-lists viewed as a timeline in third column
-pinned toots
-quote toots
-keyword muting (lowest cuz i have a tampermonkey script for it)

boost if you agree with these, or at the least the private posts one, cuz i want that one Dang Now

Psst

hey, hey you.

You're great and deserve to have a good night/day

A reminder I put up a page on self defense/martial arts information for everyone

bushi.neocities.org/dojo/dir.h

BTW I haven't documented this anywhere I don't think but a.weirder.earth is totally open source. I have a light fork of mastodon here, and welcome PRs if you have thoughts.

I deploy the 'deploy' branch, but PR into master if you have a contribution.

“I see broken software” is the new “I see dead people”

PSA:

If you migrate a Mastodon instance:

* Keep the secrets the same or people WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LOG IN WITH 2FA (I fucked this up)

* Remember to migrate the Redis database to keep your local timeline - see stackoverflow.com/a/22024286 for how

* Make sure your new instance has enough RAM or you'll have a bad time (I recommend at least 2GB and even that is pushing it)

Rule of Mastodition #66: Some people Show more

Finally getting my legal name changed today!

If you're doing #introduction thing... Show more

Okay, now that a few friends-of have been notified, please help boost so folks who weren't able to get on maly.io and other free speech Masto instances before they hit capacity know that the awesome freehold.earth is now open. :D

I'd like to run my own private/small Mastodon instance if I had the resources for it, but I'm not sure I do.

For folks (myself included) who are terrified at the inability to port followers cross-instance, consider:

Eons ago, folks used the email address provided by their ISP. You changed your ISP, you let your friends know about your new email. Because non-ISP-provided email generally sucked (2MB of storage?!?) and you had fewer things tying you to your email address anyway.

I've had the same email address for nearly 13 years. Before that, I bounced around a lot. We've had this problem before.

don't let .social become the super-mega-gmail-like instance. join a small mastodon instance and encourage your friends to do the same

I'm not a terribly big fan of seeing nodes with huge usercounts around.  It defeats the purpose of having a distributed federating network and gives a few administrators very disproportionate social control.

@deadsuperhero Another feature that I want is allowing instance owners to easily publish a list of instances are blocked/silenced/sandboxed/etc.

That way instance owners could easily publish transparency reports containing this list.

why did so many SA Goons and KF types become trans furries? because we/they saw that these communities we hated on were actually happier than us. we realized it was a better way to be. and often that came after actually talking to someone who was trans or a furry or something who was willing to do that.

you don't have to care about changing minds but some of us do. let us do that. let us have spaces where we can talk to people we disagree with if we want to without casting suspicion

Has anyone out there successfully uploaded an image on Tusky? It's not working for me at all.
