Should I have joined multiple instances?
Is there a benefit to being on multiple instances *other* than different people showing up in Local?
@neon Oh, that's a good point. I'm not too worried about that yet, I guess.
@walker I was also wondering this. I originally registered for mastodon.social but moved here for the tesselated polyhedra. I kind of wonder if I should delete my other account
@darthinsanity Yeah, I wouldn't delete though, never hurts to have a backup.
Like should I join one instance where I only toot about infosec and another instance where I only toot about music?
I feel like if I did that, I would be doing it wrong.
@walker You're free to, but that seems like it would be a headache to switch back and forth.
@tylerrobb That's pretty much why I wasn't planning on doing that. But I wonder if *someone* is.
Fast instance switching would be a nice Amaroq/Tusky feature.
@walker i don't believe there's a right or wrong way to use instances currently.
i suppose someone could make an instance with the idea that it will be used for a certain topic, but there's not an overarching rule that one has to limit themselves (unless they want to!)
@Beemancer I think you're right, but also I think common topics for specific instances will emerge.
@walker@icosahedron.CoC, activity and what you'd see on the federated timeilne. it's what i see people would reason atm
@walker Mixture? Like, from the little I've seen, they're ok alt accounts. Otherwise if one instance seems cool but doesn't connect to anything, may want to create an account there.
@Sailorplutoid That's about what I thought. *shrug*
@walker different instances will have different Federated timelines as well. smaller instance = quieter TL. Other than that, I don't think so unless the instance you're on has blocked another instance you want to interact with
@walker Well, you'd be ready when your main instance goes down. That's pretty much it.
