gargron told me if this post gets ten thousand boosts he'll give me the website and i will become the new gargron

Okay, so where's the Fantasy epic where the cliché prophesy is twisted to serve the bad guy and the good guys have to defeat the chosen one to save the day?

Oh wait, that's Star Wars.

I still can't get over the fact that in Wheel of Time the "Evil Creatures" created to serve "The Evil Villain(s)" are basically a motley crew of furries.

People with goathorns, muzzles, beaks, hooves, etc. === furries.

I played a fast game of chess with my best friend, bounded by the last train of the night, that he had to catch to get home. I won after a hectic endgame, and he caught the train with less than two minutes to spare.

And now a brand new company is advertising a new interface with guaranteed zero lag anywhere in the world.
They cost half as much as a regular interface, and they're practically giving them away as sponsor prizes for any competition.

What no one knows is that they work by putting you to sleep and hijacking your mind. When connecting, your mind is scanned and uploaded to The Center Of The Web, and whatever happens is fed back to you as dream-like memories.

In a cyperpunk near-future, the realism of virtual reality have been perfected. Only trained experts would be able to distinguish virtual from real, if it wasn't for the lag.
It turns out that such a direct connection with a virtual world makes even the tiniest lag noticeable; any movement of your body is a tiny bit delayed.
Some people get dizzy and nauseous with such lag, and the lags get worse the further you are from The Center Of The Web.

"'Ready to defend the lawbreakers, Lay'tek?'
'You make us sound like criminals!' Mike interrupted.
'But you are?' Carl sounded confused.
'What kind of law? Alien law? How does that apply to us?'
Morgan Freeman cut them off.
'Save it for the hearing, Mike, you're going to need it.'"

"'You have to tell me more, Lay'tek. What is this hearing about? Is it something I have done? What are the consequences if we lose? What is this all about? I don't know anything, I think I might be losing my mind!'
Lay'tek, in the shape of Morgan Freeman, leaned over the desk and padded Mike on the arm."

"Of all the things Mike would expect to find on a spaceship, this wasn't one of them. If Carl had surprised him, then it was nothing compared to how he felt now. Being abducted by a furry alien was like driving a bumper car, while this was backing a truck down a twisted mountain road 80 miles per hour while his pants were on fire. "

"Mike Williams had a very forgettable face. People always seemed to have trouble remembering him. Not his name but him as a person. 'Excuse me, have we met?' they would say and not 'I know I have seen you somewhere before!'. At social events, people would introduce themselves even though they had already met."

"Mike Williams was an extremely normal person. If you can use the word "extremely" about someone who is absolutely not extreme in any way, that is. He lived in a small house in a medium-sized town. Not a Big City, but not a small village either. He didn't hate his job but was as fond of it as he could be. He worked at a helpdesk and answered the same ten questions asked in one hundred different rude ways over and over again."

cybre ≠ cyber

cybre describes an optimism, a hope for the possibility of technology rather than a fear of its oppression
cybre represents the reality of what is now possible, in addition to the mythology of what was thought possible
cybre belongs to the indomitable individuals and indefatigable communities who have carved out a home in an invisible layer above reality

also cybre was available as a domain name

Are there any epic fantasy out there where the orcs or monsters or "furries" are the good people, and the humans are the grotesque, horrible and villainous species of evilness and deathitude that serve The Evil One without freedom or civilization?

🎧Psatnosk boosted

Hi, lovely people. I like you. Sincerely, me.

"Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep" by Philip K. Dick.

I'm only in the serving chapter, but already the mood of the book is wildly different from the movie adaption, Blade Runner. It's gloriously cyberpunk from the first sentence, but more regular-guy-wanting-to-replace-his-electric-sheep-with-a-real-one cyberpunk than the iconic brooding-hero-running-through-the-rain-killing-robots cyberpunk.

At least so far. Let's see what the book brings.
