Smartphones have been a world-historical mistake.
Great Common #Lisp article, for people (like me) who want to get into using CL: http://stevelosh.com/blog/2018/08/a-road-to-common-lisp/

Stop Using WhatsApp If You Care About Your Privacy
Privacy has always been a key feature and popular selling point for the messaging app WhatsApp. Company co-founder Jan Koum grew up in the Soviet Union under heavy government surveillance, and he promised to keep user data protected after Facebook acquired WhatsApp in 2014. Now, with Koum on the way out, it may be time to ditch WhatsApp before that promise leaves with him.

This image represents numbers up to 1M, arranged using Leland Mcinnes' UMAP dimensionality reduction algorithm "so that numbers with similar prime factorisations are closer together than those with dissimilar factorisations" — Look all those beautiful patterns!
Dezentral: #Mastodon und das #Fediverse
1.7 Mio Nutzer sind bereits bei Mastodon - der freien Alternative zu Twitter. Zusammen mit anderen Netzerken bildet Mastodon das Fediverse. Was kann das?
Earth: mostly harmless. 80% veggies 15% germs 4.7% mushrooms, slime.
An estimate of the world's biomass composition today, from a paper summarised here:

And to corroborate your point:
"Finally, we highlight that the mass of humans is an order of magnitude higher than that of all wild mammals combined and report the historical impact of humanity on the global biomass of prominent taxa, including mammals, fish, and plants."

Finding new people to follow is hard for newbies on any platform. I'm hoping that #Trunk can help. What I need is people volunteering to be on lists so newbies can follow a bunch of people right away. Please reply to this post if you agree to be on a list. Feel free to suggest new lists that I haven't thought of. (Living in my own filter bubble, I know!) Please boost!

Also looking for more lists. 😃
I just finished writing watch2gether -- a video synchronization service -- clone, which uses youtube-dl as it's backend (hint: this means it supports quite a few sites) and hides the client from tracking sites: http://doji.us.to/
Can people report bugs or issues which could be fixed? It's not quite stable yet, and can be abused (hope nobody here will do that, otherwise I'll just take it down).
In case someone hasn't seen this already, there is now a page that aggregates the most "active" or "popular" posts on mastodon, similarly to Reddit, HN or lobste.rs:
Sadly, quite a few posts seem to be a bit old, maybe that would have to be recalibrated?
currently working on: https://dyst.ax.lt/~phi/gal/infog.html
Infographics, images with triva or otherwise interesting... stuff
I've started publishing my #Emacs configuration online: https://dyst.ax.lt/~phi/emacs.d.html
Tips and advice on how to improve it is welcome, as well as links to other good configs.
@kensanata ... reminds me of this
